Smith & Zilpah his wife was born the 5th day of August 1783 John McKinne Smith born 23rd May 1786 Zilpah Smith born 31st July 1788 Larkin Smith born 13th November 1790 Zilpah Smith the yg. born 5th of December 1792 Julia Smith born 12th of October 1794 Alvan Smith born 12th of July 1797 John McKinne was born the 13th of February 1775 John McKinne above died the 18th of March 1785 Zilpah Smith, daughter of Saml. Smith and Zilpah died the 23rd of January 1791 Sam'l Smith died the 8th day of March 1809 James Hinton Smith son of Edwin Smith and Temperance his wife was born on Monday the 31st day of July Anno Domini 1797 (Smith Cemetery containing the graves of Salley Smith, wife of Samuel Smith, Jr. and that of Zilpah Smith, daughter of Samuel & Zilpah Smith are still standing and are legible. The cemetery is located just a short distance north of Neuse River on what was the home plantation of Samuel Smith, several miles northwest of Smithfield. The cemetery is enclosed by a slate and rock fence. The Samuel Smith who lived here was the son of Samuel and Charity Smith, and a cousin of John Smith,Jr. who gave the land for the town of Smithfield. Samuel Sr. and John Sr. being brothers who settled in the Smithfield area of Johnston County about 1740/43 according to early records and research by this compiler- E. E.
