Johnston County This day personally appeared before me one of the Justices assignd to keep the peace for sd County Stephen Powell Senr of sd County and being sworn on the holy Evengilast of Almighty god deposeth & says that, as he Understood, his son Stephen Powell Decd, turnd Over into the Continental line of this State as a Soldier for Eighteen Months in the year 1782 that he faithfully served in 1782 as a Soldier and Died in the South State in 1783 and that he never by himself nor no other person to his Knowledge has Rec'd any pay or Satisfaction for the same nor bartered the pay due him for sd Service to no person or persons nor Given pay due him for sd Service, nor given any Order or power to no person to Draw the same Given under my hand & Seal this 20th Day Sepr 1791 Thos.
