He was once convicted of murder, sentenced to be hanged, lost his case, was about to be swung for the killing when his sentence was commuted to life imprisonment in the penitentiary. A few year later he was pardoned and is now a prosperous farmer and property owner in Johnson county. Alex Blalock is his name. He is ginger-cake colored negro, 45 years of age, with an honest, prosperous look about him. He is said to be one of the most influential and substantial negroes in Johnson county.
