                 AN EXTRAORDINARY MAN
   NATHAN FLOWERS, ESQ., of Johnston County, is 85 years old, and has never 
been sick a day in his life -- never loast a meal from indisposition, never 
took a particle of medicine of any kind. He is a man of extraordinary "strong 
common sense," and tenacious memory -- a man of unusual cheerfulness. He has 
always been engaged in hard manual laabor, being in limited circumstances, 
works daily on his small farm which yields him a decent support for himself 
and aged wife. Truly might the old gentleman exclaim in the language of 
Shakespeare's Shepherd, "I am a true laborer. I earn that I eat, get that I 
wear; owe no man hate, envy no man's happiness and glad of other men's good."
