The Raleigh Standard, 10 Aug. 1859
     KILLED BY LIGHTNING -- We learn that a young man by the name of MARSHMAN 
was killed by lightning on last Friday evening at a schoolhouse near 
Earpsboro. The lightning struck a tree near the schoolshouse, entered the 
house, knocking the teacher, MR. SMITH, out of his chair, and burning the feet 
of several boys, at the same time, besides killing MR. MARSHMAN.
