Strickland of Selma Dies At His Home - Edward Marshall Strickland, 81, of Selma died at his home Saturday. A funeral service was conducted in the chapel of the Bailey Funeral Home in Selma Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The Rev. Matt R. Gardner and the Rev. Frank Zedick officiated. Interment was in Antioch Church Cemetery on Route 1, Middlesex. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ida Parker Strickland; three daughters, Mrs. A. V. Eason of Selma, Mrs. Julia Lambert of Raleigh and Mrs. Charlie Straughn of Goldsboro; two sons, Roger W. Strickland and J. Odell Strickland, both of Selma; three sisters, Mrs. J. Ransom Creech of Smithfield, Mrs. Richard Hodge of Kenly and Mrs. Betsy Creech Earp of Greensboro; 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Mrs. Beatrice Green Smith Dies - Mrs. Beatrice Green Smith, 74, of Route 1, Wendell, died Saturday morning in Johnston Memorial Hospital. She was a daughter of the late Bob and Bettie Green of Johnston County. A funeral service was conducted Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at White Oak Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. A. D. Parrish, pastor, officiated. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Survivors are one son, H. B. Smith of Wendell; three daughters, Mrs. W. H. Wilder and Mrs. Everett Wilder of Route 1, Wendell, and Mrs. Milo Johnson of Wendell; one brother, Morris Green of Garner; two sisters, Mrs. Odis Wilder of Clayton and Miss Lillie Green of Wendell; and seven grandchildren. January 18, 1966 Mrs. Allie Blackman Dies At Age Of 22 - Mrs Allie Mae Blackman, 22, of Route 1, Newton Grove, died early Monday morning in Johnston Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. She was born in Johnston county. The funeral was scheduled for Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, at Hood's Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Phillip McLean officiating and interment following in Roselawn Cemetery. Surviving are her husband, Bruce M. Blackman; one daughter, Shretta; one son, Barry Blackman; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Wood of Route 3, Four Oaks; one sister, Mrs. J. E. Messer of Benson; and two brothers, Rayvon Wood of Raleigh and Earl Wood of Route 3, Benson. M. Owen Cooke, 58, Cabinet Maker, Dies - M. Owen Cooke, 58 year old cabinet maker of Route 1, Willow Springs, was pronounced dead on arrival at Johnston Memorial Hospital early Monday morning after becoming ill at his home. He was a native of Johnston County. He was a son of the late Lonnie and Sarah Langdon Cooke. The funeral was scheduled for Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock at Providence Presbyterian Church with the Rev. D. H. Dulin and the Rev. Dan Matthews officiating and interment following in the church cemetery. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lourae Austin Cooke; two daughters, Mrs. Jerry S. Boone of Route 1, Garner, and Mrs. Charles Wagner of Garner; one son, John Owen Cooke of Raleigh; two brothers, Leonard Cooke of Four Oaks and Willard Cooke of Route 1, Smithfield; five sisters, Mrs. J. Charlie Parrish and Miss Rachel Cooke, both of Smithfield, Mrs. Walter Stephenson of Route 1, Smithfield, Mrs. Jacob Olive of Route 2, Pittsboro, and Mrs. Leon Raynor of Route 1, Clayton; and two grandchildren. Mrs. Coates' Mother Dies - Mrs. Ruth Ogburn Powell of Route 1, Apex, mother of Mrs. Roy C. Coates of Smithfield and Bethesda, Md., died Saturday in Mary Elizabeth Hospital in Raleigh. Surviving are one daughter, one son, three grandchildren, two sisters, and one brother. Mrs. Powell, the wife of Hermas Powell, was 66 years of age. The funeral was conducted at 2:30 Monday afternoon at Apex funeral Home. Elder T. Floyd Adams and the Rev. John Baxley officiated. Walter Starling Dies At Age 80 - Walter Starling, 80-year old retired farmer of Selma, died Tuesday morning at his home after a period of declining health. He was born in Johnston County. He was a son of the late Daniel and Sophronia Peedin Starling. He was a member of Bethany Missionary Baptist Church and was a member of the Woodmen of the World. The funeral arrangements are being handled by Bailey Funeral Home in Selma. There was other information, however, I did not have a complete copy of the Starling Obit. Two Birth Announcements in the January 18, 1966 paper Mr. and Mrs. Jack Melvin Rose, a son, on January 8 in Betsy Johnson Memorial Hospital in Dunn. Mrs. Rose is the former Christine Stewart of Buies Creek. The infant is the grandson of Mrs. Willis Rose of Route 1, Four Oaks. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Powell Jr. of Windsor, a son, Jonathan Stokes III, on January 14 at Bertie Memorial Hospital in Windsor.
