He served as a member of the Smithfield Police Department for 14 years, until 1949. In his last years, he was chief. He served in the US Navy as an aviation metalsmith, from August 1919 until August 1922. He was the son of Junius and Ellen Davis PEterson. He was a member of Central Baptist Church and was a deacon and a Sunday school teacher. He and his wife, Alma Parnell of Kenly, were married for 54 years. They were married February 1924. Burial is in Sunset Memorial Park in West Smithfield. He was survived by four daughters, Mrs. Walter R. McLamb, Mrs. David E Minshew, Mrs. Florine Tucker and Mrs. E. Worth Hill. One brother, L.A. Peterson and Six sisters Mrs. HA MacFarlane, Mrs. Reese Garbutt, and MRs. Leonard Bruce. Mres. VH James, Mrs. HC Creech, Mrs. Raymond Sugg. He had 18 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.
