All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/nc/ncfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Natasha Miles bittersweet3@yahoo.com June 16, 2020, 10:46 pm The Semi-Weekly Messenger (Wilmington NC) 18 Oct 1898 A Sad Death A Young Lady Drops Dead Just as She Attempts to Board a Train Mt Olive, NC, October 14 Miss Ella Powell, of Dunn NC, who had been on a visit to Mrs B B Carr, near here, was brought out today to meet the 11:40 train by her aunt, Mrs B B Carr and Miss Powell had purchased her ticket at Dunn and was in readiness to board the train as it arrived. Just as the train stopped she fell backward, but was caught by some one standing near by, and was dead in ten minutes. She was aged 12 years and was the daughter of Ex-Sheriff Powell, of Johnson county. Her remains were immediately taken to Mrs J M Coxe's where they was dressed and placed in a coffin and will be sent home tonight on the 9:40 train. The young lady was perfectly well at the time of her death. We extend our heartfelt sympathy of the bereaved family in this hour of bereavement.
