Johnston County, NC - Obituary of Betsy Rhodes, 1910 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Smithfield Herald Friday, August 6, 1910 A Good Woman Gone To Her Reward On Saturday evening July 30 our community was saddened by the death of Mrs. Betsy Rhodes, one of our oldest and most highly respected women. Shw was about seventy-eight years of age and had been in bad health for several months but bore her affliction patiently. All that physicians, kind friends, and loved ones could do was done, but the Lord saw fit to take her and none could hinder. Mrs. Rhodes was loved and well thought of by all who knew her. She had never connected herself with any church, but was a strong Primitive Baptist in belief. She leaves behind to mourn their loss, five sons and three daughters and many friends. She was laid to rest in the family burying ground near Benson Sunday afternoon in the presence of a host of sorrowing relatives and friends. I think it can be truly be said without any exception that the sympathy of the entire community is extended to the bereaved ones. A friend Princeton, R.F.D.
