Smithfield - Mrs. Sadie Puckett SPIERS, 83, of Smithfield, 
died Saturday night at Hillcrest Convalescent Home in Durham.   
She was the widow of J. D. SPIERS, pioneer businessman of 
Smithfield.  She was born in Tyrrell County, daughter of 
William C. and Hester SPRUILL PUCKETT.  She was a sister of 
the late Rev. W. A. PUCKETT of the North Carolina Methodist
Conference.  Since her husband's death, she made her
home alternately between her nieces, Mrs. W. M. PALMER
of Durham and Mrs. W. H. LYON of Smithfield.  Funeral
services will be held at Centenary Methodist Church
here Monday at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Riverside
Cemetery here.
