The Standard of Raleigh,  March 25, 1863

   A gallant son of North Carollina, who left the University at Chapel Hill as 
a volunteer, and was killed at Sharpsburg, was advertised a deserter; one of 
many gross and inexcusible mistakes that have been made in this matter-- 
Charleston Courier. The name of this man was NATHAN SNEAD of Johnston County.
Officers of companies cannot be too careful in advertising absentees and 
deserters. A brave man feels a stain more than he does a wound.
