Johnston County, NC - Obituary of James Wallace, 1916 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Smithfield Herald, Tuesday, June 27, 1916 An Aged Man Passes In Memory of an Old Confederate Soldier On Tuesday night, June 20, 1916, at midnight, the death angel entered the home of Willie A. Wallace in Elevation township and bore to the great beyond the spirit of his father, James Wallace, at the age of 87 years. Mr. Wallace served his country during the Civil War in Company I, 24th Regiment Infantry. He leaves three sons and three daughters, 27 grandchildren and two great grand children to mourn their loss. The funeral services were conducted by Elder W. B. Strickland, of the Free Will Baptist Church, of which he was a consistent member for a number of years.
