Johnston County, NC - Obituary of Richard W. Williford, 1910 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A Good Man Passed Away Last Thursday evening, September 29th, our community was saddened by the death of Mr. Richard Williford, one of our oldest and most highly esteemed citizens. He was about eighty-nine years of age and has been in declining health for many years. All was done that physicians, kind friends, and loved ones could do to prolong his stay on earth, but the time had come that he should answer the call and none could hinder. Mr. Williford was a good man, a good neighbor and a friend to all. It can truly be said that those who knew him best loved him most. He was always true to his country and did his duty the four years he served in the war. He was a member of the Free Will Baptist church and judging from the uprightness of his life, we believe that he is in peace with God. The deceased leaves a wife, eight sons, five daughters and many friends to mourn their loss. He was laid to rest Friday afternoon in the family burying ground near Mr. Rufus Grantham's in the presence of a host of friends and sorrowing relatives. The funeral exercises being conducted by Rev. Mr. Moore. How sweet it will be to meet with our friends and loved ones after this journey is over and live with Jesus forever in that home that he has prepared for his followers. While we are made sad, we feel that he is happy, being through with the troubles and hardships that we will have to endure. We know that he will not come to see us, but if we will do our Father's will, we will go to see him.
