Johnston County, NC - John Wilson to Patty Davis, 1785 ~~~~~~~~~~ State of North Carolina Knw all men by these presents that we John Wilson & Jacob Davis are held and firmly bound unto his Excelency Richard Caswell Esquire Governor Captain General and Commander in chief of the State aforesaid in the just and full sum of five hundred pounds current money of the State aforesaid to be paid to his said Excellency the Governor his successors or assigns to the which payment will and truly to be made and done we bind ourselves our selves our heirs executors administrators and assigns jointly and severally firmly by these presents sealed with our seals and dated this fourteenth day of September Anno Domini (1785) seventeen hundred and eight five The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the above bound John Wilson hath made application for a license for a marriage to be celebrated between him and Patty Davis of the county aforesaid. Now in case it shall not appear hereafter that there is any lawful cause to obstruct the said marriage then the above obligation to be void; otherwise to remain in full force and virtue Signed Sealed and Delivered John X Wilson {Seal} in presence of Jacob X Davis {Seal} Wm Ward State of North Carolina } Johnston County } I John H.
