Johnston County, NC - WILL OF JACOB PARKER BREWER, 1783 ~~~~~~~~~~ WILL OF JACOB PARKER BREWER Johnston County North Carolina In the Name of Gd Amen. the 1st day of July 1783 I Jacob Parker Brewer in the County of Joh[n]ston & State of No. Carolina planter being very Sick & weak in body, but of perfe[ct] mind & memory thanks be given unto God [T]herefore Calling unto mind the mor[ta]lity of my Body, and Knowing that it is appointed for all men Once to die do make and ordain this my last will and Testament that is to say principal[ly,] and as Touching such world Estate when wherewith it hath bin pleased God to bless me in this life Igive Devise and Dispose of the same in the following manner and form----------------------- IMPRIMIS I lend unto Martha my beloved wife the Land and plantation [w]hereon I now Dwell with all and Singular my goods and Chattles & all [m]y personal Estate D[ur]ing of her natural life and after her Death to Equally Devided Between my son David Brewer and my Daughter Jaen Brewer (sic) I also Constitute & apoint Martha my wife & my son Da[v]id Brewer Execut[x] & Executor of this my last will and & Testament------------------ ITEM I give unto my beloved son David Brewer all the Land whereon he Dwells [on] & part of the Land whereon I Dwell to be Devided Beginning above my plan[t]ation in the first line of the pattent & Running [a]n E [line?] close Above the [p]lantation to the Eastermost Line Containing by Estemation two Hundred & [f]ifty Acres to him & his heirs for Ever ITEM I give the Remainder of my Land unto my beloved Daughter Jean Brewer & the plantation whereon I now Dwell, After her mothers Death to her & her heirs for Ever And I do Hereby utterly Disanul all & Every Other former Will or Testament Rattifying this and no Other to be my Last Will & Testament in Witness whereof I have hereunto set my Hand & Seal the day & year first Above written Sign'd Seal'd Published [&] pronounced and Declared by the said Jacob Parker Brewer as his last Will & Testament in presents of us the Subscribors VIZ, Mikel Fulghum his Oliver Rains Jacob Parker ( + ) Brewer {Seal} Henry Rains mark (Jacob's mark was a bold vertical line slanting right to left, with three lines running through it more or less horizontally, but sort of slanting left to right. -jcd) On outside fold: Jacob Parker Brewer Will Executrix Qualified From printed volume of Abstracts of Johnston County Court Records: 29 Nov 1784 page 275 Johnston County Court Records Vol III ...exhibited in open court by the executrix the last will and testament of Jacob Parker BREWER...for probation etc...when Oliver RAINS one of the subscribing evidences came into court and swore that he saw Jacob Parker BREWER sign...etc...admitted for probate...
