Will of William Carrell

Proven May 26, 1812/November 23, 1812. 

Georgia
In the name of God Amen, I William Carrell of the state of North Carolina and 
Johnston County feeling and in disposition of body but of perfect sound mind 
and memory thanks be to God, for calling unto mind the mortality of my body 
and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain 
this my last will and testament As touching such worldly estate wherewith it 
hath pleased God to bless me with in this life, I give and devise and dispose 
of the same in the following manner and form.
First I give and bequeath to Sarah my dearly beloved wife all that part of my 
estate that now exists in the State of N. Carolina and Johnston County at the 
present place of my residence which I received with or acquired by or in 
virtue of my marriage with said Sarah consisting of personal property (viz.) 
Three negros Toby and his wife Ledy and her child Laidy, A small stock of 
horses & cattle &c., The residue of my property at the said place of my 
residence, I desire that it should be sold and the money equally divided 
amongst all my children whom I shall hereafter mention if any there is after 
all lawful expences paid.
Also I give to my daughter Mary & William Hunt three hundred dollars cash to 
be raised and levied out of my estate.
Also I give to my daughter Bethania & Edward Prather three hundred dollars cash.
I also give to my grandchildren the orphans of my son John Carrell deceased 
two hundred dollars cash to be equally divided amongst them when they come of age. 
I give to the lawful issues or issue of my son Mitchel Carrell and Sarah his 
wife my negro George and seven cows and calves and two featherbeds one with 
furniture and one without, the said Mitchel to have the use of the aboved 
mentioned property but not to dispose of it in any manner whatever and five 
hundred dollars to be paid to said issue or issues when of age. 
Also I give to my son James Carrell three negros viz. Pleasant and two of her 
children Dave and Jesse. 
Also I give to my son William Carrell four negros, namely Jim, Kate, Sam and Hanner.
Also I give to the said William Carrell and James jointly all and singular my 
lands and tenaments and appertainences whatsoever thereunto belonging together 
with all the residue of my personal property by them freely to be possessed 
and enjoyed. 
Also I likewise constitute and make the said William Carrell the sole executor 
of this my last will and testament. 
And I do hereby utlerly disallow revoke all and every former testaments wills 
legacies and executors &c. by me in any wise before named and willed, 
ratifying and confirming this to be my last will and testament.  In witness 
whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twentieth day of November in 
the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and nine.

Then was the above will exhibited in open court and was accordingly admitted.

Page 26, May 26, 1812, Articles purporting to be the last Will and Testament 
of William Carrell Decd. late of Johnston County, was produced to the Court 
and it appearing that James Ross and Silas Monk the Subscribing Witnesses 
thereto are Residents of Columbia County in the State of Georgia, It is 
ordered that a Commission issue to Zadok Magruder, Daniel Donelly, John Monk, 
and Burwell Bullock authorizing them or any two of them, to take the 
Deposition of the said James Ross & Silas Monk in regard to the Execution of 
the said Will, and that the said Will accompany the Said Commission.  

Page 53, November 23, 1812, Was Exhibited by the Executor for Probet [Probate] 
the last Will and Testament of William Carrell Decd. [followed by blank space
