Also I give and bequeath unto my son JESSE GODWIN five silver dollars to him and his heirs forever. Also I give and bequeath unto my son ARNOLD GODWIN twenty silver dollars to him and his heirs forever. Also I give and bequeath unto my son SAMUEL GODWIN five silver dollars to him and his heirs forever. Also I give and bequeath unto my daughter MARY MORRIS five silver dollars to her and her heirs forever. Also I give and bequeath unto my grandson JESSE HEDGEPETH five silver dollars to him and his heirs forever. Also I give and bequeath unto my daughter KEZIA PEW five silver dollars to her and her heirs forever. I also give and bequeath unto my son JORDAN GODWIN all the land that I now posess nine hundred acres more or less including the plantation whereon I now live with all the dwelling houses and out houses thereupon standing together with all the appertainces thereunto belonging. Also I do likewise give and bequeath unto my son the aforesaid JORDAN GODWIN all my goods and chattles and household property of whatsoever kind and quality they may be and likewise all my stock of cattle, sheep and hogs that are said to be my property and of my proper mark together with all working tools and farming utensils of whatsoever kind they may be and lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint my son SAMUEL GODWIN and TIGNAL PEW full and sole executors of this my last will and testament hereby revoking disannulling and making void all other former wills and bequests by me heretofore made and declaring this to be my last will and testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal on the day and year first above written in. Richard Pierce's General Muster of the Johnston County Militia on 7 Oct 1766, along with Richard, David and Edmund Godwin. (NC Colonial Records Vol. 7, pgs 262, 263) *** At the 15 April 1766 Court of Johnston County, Samuel Godwin is appointed overseer on the road while in the room of John Lee. Later he was appointed Constable in the room of David Godwin. Next appears in court minutes when it is ordered that a road be opened from the road called Smith's Road to Faulk's ford and that a jury be called to lay out that road. Samuel was in Edgecombe County in 1777 when he and William Godwin witnessed a deed for John White of Tarborough. He lived in Edgecombe County until the death of his father, William Godwin. (Edgecombe County Deeds by Watson, pg. 89.) Sells 100 acres to Samuel, Jr for a small fee that was a land grant entered 23 March 1779. (Johnston, NC Dd Bk. Vol. VI, 165) Paid for Superior Court Duty at the 27th August 1787, Johnston County Court. At the 28 May 1793 Court, Samuel Godwin Sr requested his stock mark be recorded as follows: A crop off the right ear and a half moon under. Land Grants: Grant 3-1037 entered 1787 for 100 acres with Noel Rentfroe and Jesse Godwin as chain bearers Grant 1449 entered June 28, 1787 for 120 acres Grant 1388 entered 1 March 1797 for 250 acres In the 1799 Tax List in Johnston County, he is paying taxes on 720 acres. Listed with him in that area are his sons, Samuel Jr, Thomas, Ephraim, Edmund, and Theophilus Godwin. In the years, 1804, 1805 and 1806, he is paying taxes on 900 acres of land. Being over 55, he pays no poll taxes.
