Johnston County, NC - Will of George Gully, 1823 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Will of George Gully - 1823 In the name of God Amen. I George Gully of the County of Johnston and State of North Carolina being of sound and perfect mind and memory Blessed be God do this sixteenth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and twenty three make and publish this my last will and testament in manner following First I give to my wife Zilpha Gully one bay horse and one bay mare one womans saddle one man saddle three bridels four cows and calves one work horse & one black horse ten head of sheep one carte and wheles twenty five head of hogs all my geese two fether beds and firniture two chest one tabel and all my houshold & kitchen furntiure of every kind and all my workin tools that belongs to the plantation and all pervitron now on hand and all the corne that is growing on the plantation whereon I now live with the fodder except on eight part that I give to my son Robert N Gully of the corne & fodder and foure hundred wate of seed cotton and all my flax Item I lend to my wife during her lifetime one negro man named Arthur and one negro woman named Jinna and the land that I do give to my son George Stevenson Item I give to my daughter Bethany Hinnant one negor woman named Zena and her increase one bed and furniture two head of cattel four head of sheep one chest one saddle one sow and pig all which she has recvd Item I give to my daughter Betsy Phillips one negro woman named Hanner one bed and furniture three head of cattle foure hed of sheepe one chest one saddle & bridle all which she has recvd Item I give to my daughter Sally Phillips one negro garl named Claricy one bed and furniture three hed of cattle foure hed of sheepe one saddle one chist all which she has recvd Item I give to my daughter Zilpha one negro garl named Silva one bed and furniture and twenty five dollars in money Item I give to my son Robert Newsom Gully one track or percel of land on the north side of News River joining lands of Elias Barnes Reuben Sanders & Dr Whites & William Walls and on the south side of the Rocky Spring Branch where my line and Reuben Sanders line crosses the said Rocky Spring Branch then up the said Branch to the Smithfield Rode thence a direct line near am east cost to George Wimberlys line to a corner stake neare my fence also one negor Garl named Edith one bed And furniture one horse saddle & bridle and one half of my set of Blacksmith Tools to him and his heirs forever Item I give to my son George Stevenson Gully after the deth of my wife all the remainder of my land on the north side of the said Rocky Spring Branch joining the land of Reuben Sanders Joseph O Watson & George Wimberly also one negro garl named Ollif one bed and furniture one bay colt one new saddle one half of my set of my Blacksmith Tools and one gun to him and his heirs forever Item all the balance of cattle hogs and sheep I live to be equally divided between my son Robert Newsom & George Stevenson & my daughter Zilpha Gully by three men who they chuse Item I lend the low ground plantation that I give to my son Robert Newsom to my wife during her widowhood Item I give to my son Robert Newsom one black wor not box Item I give to my son George Stevenson one black wor not tabel Item I live the land that bought of Joseph Hinnant containing three hundred and fourteen acres lying on Buckhorne Swamp joining the land of James Hinnant to be sold in manner following to wit, one half to be paid in six month the other half to be in twelve month and the money arising from the sell of the land to pay my debts and the twenty five dollars given to my daughter Zilpha and all the ballance of my property that is not named Except my Negroes to be sold and the mony arise from the above named sales to be equally divided between my wife and all my surviving children except twenty dollars I give to Elias Barnes to act as one of my Executors Item my will is that if either of my sons should die without a lawful heirs or before the come of eage that the land given to him shall be the property of he surviving son Item my will is that if eithe of my surviving children shall loos one of the Negros all ready given them Bethany Hinnant excepted then shall after the death of my wife have one of the negroes that I have Lent to her during her life the said negro to be as were the vallue of the lost negroe can be agaetained by execs Item all the ballance of my negroes that is not given a way nor lent to my wife during her life I lend to my wife during her widowhood and then to be equally divided between all my surviving children with the negroes lent to her during her lifetime and if theare can not be an equal devition with out an saile my will is that such a part of the negros or negro be sold so as to make the devition eaquel Item I give unto my two grandaughters Eliza & Casindy Wise all the accounts I have aganst them provided they live to have an Lawfull heirs or shall marry And I do hereby make and ordane my son Robert Newsom Gully and Elias
