Johnston County, NC - Will of Nathan Gurley, 1777 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Will of Nathan Gurley Johnston County 1777 In The Name Of God Amen. I Nathan Gurley of the County of Johnston in the Province of North Carolina, Husbandman being weak in body but of sound memory thanks to God and calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing it is appointed for all men once to die make and ordain this my last will and testament that is to say----- Item. First of all recommend my soul to God that gave it and for my body I recommend it to the Earth to be buried in a Christian like amd decent manner at the discretion of my Executor Item. I give to my beloved wife Anna Gurley a dark bay mare colt pleasure and fourteen head of cattle and thirteen head sheep Item. I give to my eldest son Arthur Gurley a plantation whereon I now live containing one hundred and twenty five acres and a Dictionary book Item. I give to my beloved son Robert Gurley the Loward plantation known by the Ballard Plantation Item. I give to my beloved daughter Elizabeth Gurley four head of cattle at William Edwards and also a large Church Bible Item. I give to my beloved daughter Ferebe Gurley a mare and a colt running in the woods at large and also one feather bed and furniture Item. And all the residue and rest of my estate goods and chatles I lend to my beloved wife Anna Gurley during her life or widowhood and then after paying all my lawful debts I give the remainder of all after my wife decease or widowhood to be equally divided between my four children, Arthur Gurley Robert Gurley Elizabeth Gurley and Ferebe Gurley to be equally divided Lastly I nominate constitute and appoint my friend William Gurley Sen exect and my wife exetrix of this my last will and testament revoking all other will or wills by me heretofore made ratifying this and no other to be my last will and testament in testimony.
