All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/nc/ncfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Guy Potts http://www.genrecords.net/emailregistry/vols/00017.html#0004214 February 16, 2013, 9:55 pm Source: N C Archives Written: May 30, 1832 Recorded: August 1834 In the name of God Amen I John Harper Senr. of the county of Johnston and State of North Carolina being of sound and perfect mind and memory blessed be god for the same, and calling to mind the mortality of the body that it is appointed once for all flesh to die, do this 30th day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand and eight hundred and thirty two, make publish ratify establish and ordain this and no other my last soul to God who gave it, nothing doubting but I shall receive it again in the morning of the general resurrection where soul and body will be united and my body to the dust to be buried in a Christian like manner at the discretion of my executors hereafter named as touching of my worldly estate that it hath been pleased the almighty God to bless me with in this life. I dispose of in manner and form following, Viz. Item first my will is that all of my just debts be punctually satisfied and paid. I lend to my dear and well beloved wife Anna Harper all the land that I am now possessed with and one sorrel mare, with the exception of my son John Harper raising of a colt from said mare, all of my stock of hogs and cattle and all of my house hold and kitchen furniture, with the exception of one feather bed and furniture which I give to my son John, all of my farming utensils and working tools one cart and all of my crop of every kind that is now growing and all of the corn fodder cotton and bacon that I now possess during of her natural life. Item I give and devise unto my beloved son John Harper after the death of my wife all of the land that I am in possession of to him his heirs and assigns for ever, also one cow and calf and one feather bed and furniture to him his heirs and assigns for ever. Item it is my will and desire that after my son John raises a colt from my mare, that my wife should raise one for my grandson John Allen Griffis of said mare. Item it is my will and desire that after the death of my wife all of the property which I have lent to her excepting of my land be sold and the moneys arising from the sale of said property be equally divided amongst all of my children, to wit, Susanna Brown, Mary Hollingsworth, Absalom Harper, John Harper, Edna Box and Anna Griffis to them their heirs and assigns for ever. And I do hereby make constitute appoint establish and ordain my son John Harper Executor to this my last will and testament in witness whereof I do here by set my hand and seal this day and date above written.
