Devised March 16, 1767, Proven November 22, 1768. In the Name of God amen the sixteenth day of March in the year of our Lord 1767. I John Hinnant Senr. of Johnston County and province of North Carolina planter being weak in Body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be giving unto God for the same and Calling to Mind the mortality of my Body and Knowing that it is appointed for all men to die do make and ordain this my Last will and testament that is to say principally and first of all, I Give and Recommend my Soul into the Hands of God that gave it and for my body I Recommend it to the Earth to be buried in a Christian like and decent manner at the Discretion of my Executors nothing doubting but at the general Resurrection I shall Receive the Same again by the mighty power of God and as touching such worldly Estate where with it hath pleased God to Bless me in this Life I give and Dispose of the Same in manner and form following that is to say in the first place. Item, I give and Bequeath to my son William Hinnant one hundred acres of Land where he now Lives be it more or Less. I also give and bequeath unto him my negro wench Sell. Item, I Give and Bequeath to his Son James Hinnant one negro Boy Peter. Item, I Give and Bequeath to my daughter Mary Duck one negro boy Called Samson. Item, I Give and Bequeath to my son John Hinnant the manner plantation and all the Land Joining to it in Johnston County. Item, I Give and Bequeath to my Daughter Beathanea Gulley one negro gal named Hannah, and thirty acres of Land in Edgecombe County lying on the north side of Contentnea Creek it being part of a Larger tract which [I] have left to my son John Hinnant. Item, I Give and Bequeath to my daughter Patience Nusum one negro boy named Jacob. Item, I Give and Bequeath to my daughter Edea one negro Boy named jack and one negro gal named Ginnee and one Bed and furniture and one Chest which I have all Ready Delivered to her and for my Daughter Edea to have her part of my Estate at the year of Eighteen or married. Item, I leave to James Grice my negro fellow Sesser? and my negro wench Hannah upon paying ten pounds to each of my Children except John Hinnant to be paid within two years. Item, and all the Rest of my goods and Chattles of whatsoever kind I Desire that they should be Equally divided amongst all my Children and if any of my Children should not agree, I desire that they may Chuse one man and the Executors another and that they shall Stand to what they say and shall do. I Likewise Constitute, make, and ordain James Grice and John Hinnant Junr. and William Hinnant my sons my [W]hole and Sole Executors of this my Last will and testament and I do hereby utterly disallow, Revoke, and Disannull all and Every other former testament and will and Legacies, Requests, and Executors by me in any ways before this time named, willed, and Bequeathed, Confirming this and no other to be my last will and Testament in witness whereof I have here unto Set my hand and seal the day and year above written.
