Solomon Hinton of the County of Johnston and State of North Carolina Planter being very sick and weak in body but of Perfect mind and memory. Thanks be given unto God. Calling unto mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last will and testament that is to say principally and first of all I give and renounce my soul into the hands of Almighty God that gave it and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in decent Christian burial at the discretion of my executors nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again my the mighty power of God and as touching such worldly estate wherewith pleased God to bless me with in this life I give devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form. Item: I lend unto my loving wife Sarah Hinton one negro girl named Philis during her widowhood and at her death or marriage my desire is the said Negro girl and her increase shall be equally divided between my two children, Also I give unto her one work horse and one mare, Bridle and side saddle and my stock of cattle and four cows and pigs and fifteen head of two year old hogs and thirteen head of sheep and one feather bed, bed stead and furniture and all my pewter and one iron pot. Item: I give unto my loving daughter Eda Hinton one negro woman named Mall and one negro boy named Scotland. Item: I give to my loving son Willis Hinton my land plantation (?) and tenements that I now live on and one hundred and fifty acres of land entered and surveyed adjoining my plantation lands and one negro woman named Chlo and one negro boy named Abram and one feather bed, bed stead and furniture. Item: I leave all the remainder of personal estate to be sold at the discretion of my executors and to be equally divided amongst my wife and children. Item: I likewise appoint my brothers Malichi Hinton and William Hinton executors of this my last will and testament, and I do hereby disalow revoke and disavow all and every other former testaments, wills, legacies, bequest and executors by me in any wise before me named willed and bequeathed satisfying this and no other to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have herein to set my hand and seal this 24th day of Oct in the year of our Lord 1778.
