James Holt sen 1844 Recorded in Book L Page 425
  In the Name of God Amen,
  I James Holt sen. of the County of Johnston and State of North Carolina, 
being in a common state of health and of sound mind and memory, thanks be to 
God for his blessing, and calling to mind the mortality of my body and Knowing 
that is appointed for all men once to die, do this day make ordain establish 
and confirm my Last Will and Testament hereby revoking disannulling and making 
void all other wills heretofore by me made, and establishing and confirming 
this to be my last will and Testament in manner and form following, to wit. 
  Item 1st  My Will and desire is, that as soon after my decease as may be, my 
Negro man Alfred and his wife Milly, and all my other property of every 
description, not otherwise disposed of, together with the money I may have on 
hand at the time of my decease, or which may be due to me, after paying my 
just debts, be equally divided amongst my Grand children, namely Jesse Holt, 
Wiley Holt, James Holt jr Sally Holt, Joseph Holt and Henry Holt, and Sophia 
Holt (now Sophia Hollowell, wife of Thomas T Hollowell) Nancy Holt, Elbert 
Holt Ransom Holt, Calvin Holt and Daniel Holt to be fully and freely enjoyed 
by them and theirs  Heirs and assigns forever.
  Lastly I nominate and appoint my son Ethelred Holt and my Grandson Jesse 
Holt Executors to this my Last Will and Testament.
In Witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal.  This the 
6th day of March A.D. 1843					his

We the undersigned, having been called by James Holt senr., this day read the 
above written Will bearing date 6th day of March 1843 in his hearing, and have 
heard him declare that the same is still his last Will and Testament and that 
he now republishes and confirm it as such and at his request we have become 
witnesses to the same this the 18th day of May 1843
