Devised September 29, 1837 Proven August 26, 1839 In the name of God Amen, I James Johnson Snr. of Middle Creek in the County of Johnston and State of North Carolina being weak of body but of sound and disposing mind and memory for which I am truly thankful to the great disposer of all events do make this my last will and testament (to wit) as follows. Item I give and bequeath unto my beloved sons Aldrige Alvis Johnson and James William Johnson all my lands which I now posess to them their heirs and assigns forever and if either of them die before they become of lawful age or have lawful heirs the above named lands then to belong to the surviving one and also on the above named lands, I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Mary Johnson her natural lifetime or widowhood on the above named Land. Item I give and bequeath unto my beloved daughter Pensavilla Woodall wife of William Woodall one bed bedstead and furniture one cow and calf formerly mine but now in her posession to her her heirs and assigns for ever. Item I give and bequeath unto my beloved daughter Ginsey Coats wife of Alvin Coats one bed, bed stead, and furniture one cow and calf formerly mine but now in her posession to her her heirs and assigns for ever. Item I give and bequeath unto my beloved daughter Eliza Johnson one bed bed stead and all the furniture which she has procured for said bed one cow and calf to her her heirs and assigns forever. I give and bequeath unto my beloved. daughter Martha Penny Johnson one bed bed stead and all the furniture which she has procured for said bed, one cow and calf to her and her heirs for ever. Item I give and bequeath unto my beloved daughter Elizabeth Jane Johnson one Bed bed stead and all the furniture which she has procured for said bed, one cow and calf to her and her heirs and assigns for ever. Item I give and bequeath unto my beloved daughter Angelina Johnson one bed, bed stead and all the furniture which she has procured for said bed one cow and calf to her and her heirs for ever. I give and bequeath unto my beloved daughter Tranquilly Johnson one bed bed stead and all the furniture which she has procured for said bed one cow and calf to her and her heirs and assigns for ever. Item I give and bequeath to my beloved son Aldrige Alvis Johnson one bed bedstead and furniture, one cow and calf one shot gun one horse bridle and saddle to him and his heirs and assigns for ever. Item I give and bequeath to my beloved son James William Johnson one bed bedstead and furniture one cow and calf one rifle gun one horse bridle and saddle to him his heirs and assigns for ever. Item I give unto my beloved wife Mary Johnson one bed stead and furniture during her natural life time. Item I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Mary Johnson all my house hold and kitchen furniture all my plantation tools, two horses all my stock of cattle except such as has been given to my beloved children aboved named all my stock of hogs all my stock of sheep one cart and wheels, all my cider casks, for the support of my family and also the aboved named property to belong to my wife Mary Johnson during her natural life or widowhood and after her death or widowhood to be equally divided amongst my lawful heirs in common to them their heirs and assigns forever. Item I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Mary Johnson one negroe man named Isham on negroe woman named Martha and her children Henderson, Benford Robbin Braswell and Elenor and their increase during her natural life or widowhood, and after her death or widowhood to be equally divided amongst my nine children in common, to them and their bodily heirs for ever. It is my request that Needham Bryan be executor to this my last will and testament, breaking an making void all wills and testaments by me made heretofore made ratifying and confirming this and only this to be my last will and testament in witness whereof I the said James Johnston, Snr. have to this my last will and testament set my hand and affixed my seal this 29th of September A.D. 1837. Signed sealed and published in the presence of N. Bryan James Johnson Brittan Johnson Alvin Coats Johnston County August Court, 1839 Then was the execution of this last will and testament proven in open court by the oaths of N. Bryan, Britton Johnson and Alvin Coats and the executor therein named relinquished and B. H. Tomlinson is appointed administrator with the will annexed and qualified accordingly and said will is ordered to be recorded. Wm H. Watson clk. August 26, 1839, Was exhibited for probate in open Court the last will & testament of James Johnson Senr. decd. which was duly proven by the oaths of N. Bryan, Brittan Johnson and Alvin Coats and upon the relinquishment of N. Bryan the Executor therein named Bernis H.
