Devised February 26, 1779, Probated November 28, 1780. In the name of God Amen, I, John Johnson of the County of Johnston and the parish of St. Stephens (North Carolina) being of disposing mind and memory thanks be to God for the Same do make and Ordain this to be my Last Will and Testament do Desire my worldly Goods both real and personal which it hath pleased God of his infinite mercy and Goodness to bestow on me to be Disposed of in the following manner: Viz, Imprimis, After my funeral expenses are defrayed and Just debts are paid, I give unto my beloved wife Elizabeth Johnson during her life or widowhood her maintenance upon the said plantation whereon I now live and all the remainder part of my Estate during her lifetime or widowhood excepting what is hereafter mentioned, to wit. Item, I give unto my beloved Son Moses Johnson all the land whereon I now live at his Mother's Disuse or widowhood, Dividing that from Ethelred Johnson as the new fence runs according to agreements between them. Item, I give unto my beloved Children, to wit, Amos Johnson, Benjamin Johnson, Joshua Johnson, Ethelred Johnson, Martha Adams, Ruth Pate, and Edith Brown, Five shillings a piece. Item, I give unto my Daughter Betty Johnson Ten pounds, Mary Johnson I give Ten pounds, Sally Johnson I give Ten pounds, and Becky Johnson I give Ten pounds all my beloved daughters, and after my wife's Demise or at the end of her widowhood, I desire all the remainder part of my Estate to be equally to be Divided betwixt my two Sons Starling Johnson and Henry Johnson and if one of them dies before he comes of Age or Marries, for it to fall to the other. Item, I Nominate and appoint my beloved wife Elizabeth Johnson Executrix and my beloved Son Moses Johnson Executor of this my Last Will and Testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my Seal this 26 day of February 1779.
