Devised March 4, 1824, Proven August Term, 1824. In the name of God Amen, I Amos Johnston of the State of North Carolina and County of Johnston being of sound and perfect mind and memory thanks be given to God for the same and calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this instrument to contain my last will and testament in manner and form following (to wit) I give and recommend my soul into the hands of God who gave it and my body to the earth to be buried in a christian like and decent manner at the discretion of my executors hereafter named and as touching such worldly estate as it hath been pleased God (to bestow) to bless me with in this life, I give and dispose of in the following manner. I give and bequeath to my son Reuben Johnston all the land that I own on the west side of the mountain branch between the road and Middle Creek besides what I have heretofore given him to him and his heirs forever. I give and bequeath to my son Britton Johnston one hundred and ten acres of land more or less beginning at a hickory Willis [i.e. Willie] Johnston’s corner and runs S 35 W 27 pole[s] to a poplar in the fork of the middle prong of Mountain Branch thence down the meanders of said branch to the north west prong of said branch then up the meanders of said prong, and Reuben Johnston, Warren Johnston, Drury Johnston,and Willie Johnston line[s] to the beginning. I also give to my said son Britton one feather bed and furniture to him and his heirs forever. I give and bequeath to my son Allen Johnston three hundred and fifteen acres of land more or less lying on the Stony Fork of Hannah’s Creek including the land and plantation where he now lives what I have heretofore given him to him and his heirs forever. I give and bequeath to my son Hardy Johnston all the land and plantation whereon I now live except what I have given to Reuben and Britton containing one hundred and forty [acres] more or less, also I give to my said son Hardy one feather bed and furniture, one cow and calf, one still, one rifle gun, one sadle and bridle, one axe, [and] one iron wedge to him and his heirs forever. I give and bequeath to my two daughters Polly and Lydia all the ballance of my property that I have not given away to be equally divided between them to them and their heirs forever. And lastly I constitute, nominate, and appoint my beloved son Reubin Johnston executor to this my last will and testament disannulling and revoking all other wills and testaments by me made ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament.
