In the name of God Amen, I Caswell Langdon of the County of Johnston and State of N. Carolina being of Sound minde and memory but Considering the uncertainty of my Earthly existence, do make and declare this my last will and Testament in manner and form following, that is to Say. First, That my Executor her[e]in after named Shall provide for my body a decent burial Suitable to the wishes of my relation and friends, and pay all funeral expenses together with my Just debts howsoever and to whomsoever owing out of the moneys that may first Come into his hands as part or parcell of my Estate. Item 1st, I give and devise to my beloved wife Betsy E. Langdon all my household & kitchen furniture Except Such as is hereinafter devised to have and to hold during her lifetime as my widow and after her death to be Equally divided between my Two youngest Daughters Betcy Elizar & Emily Ludellr, so far as will make them Equal in amount of property with my Oldest Daughter Margaret L. Benson, then the Ballance if Any Equaly divided between all my children Shear & Shear alike. Item 2nd, I give and devise to my oldest Daughter Margaret L. Benson wife of Benj. Benson Two Dollars to be Paid by my Executor after my death. Item 3rd, I give and devise to my Oldest & Beloved Son Benj F. Langdon one Black horse 2 years old Bridle & Saddle, 1 red & white sided(?) Steer & half of the ox cart now Belonging to me. Item 4th, I allso give to my Beloved Son Benj. F. Langdon one cow & Calf, 4 head of Sheep, allso one Bed Bedstead & furniture and one Sow 7& pigs all to his own preferense. Item 5th, it is my will and desire that the contract Between myself and Amos Coates for the Building of the dwelling for my son B. F. Langdon Should be compleeted & Paid for according out of my Estate by my Executor her[e]in after mentioned. Item 6th, I give and bequeath to my beloved Daughter Betcy Elizar Langdon One Bed Bedstead and furniture Equal to that heretofore advanced to my oldest Daughter Margaret L. Benson. I allso give to my Daughter Betcy Elizar one cow and Calf, one Sow and pigs & four head of Sheep and allso on[e] Beaurow [bureau] to her and to her own use forever to the use of herself and her heirs. Item 7th, I give and devise to my Daughter Betcy Elizar Six hundred & fiftyt Dollars in money or the value of the Same in land to her & her Bodely heirs if any at the time of her death, if not to her own Brothers and sisters Equaly divided between them Shear and Shear alike. Item 8th, I give and Bequeath to youngest Son C. M. Langdon one horse Bridle & Saddel, one Red Brinded ox and half my ox cart, one cow & Calf, one Sow & pigs & four head of Sheep. Item 9th, I give and devise to my youngest Son C. M. Langdon one Bed Bedstead and furniture Equal to that her[e]tofore advanced to my other children as mention in other Items. I allso give to my Son C. M. Langdon one horse cart & one Buggy and harness to the use of himself and mother during her lifetime widowhood. Item 10th, I give and Bequeath to my youngest Daughter Emily Ludeller one Bed Bedstead and furniture Equal to that her[e]tofore advanced to my oldest Daughter Margaret L. Benson, allso one cow and calf one sow and pigs and four head of Sheep, and one Beaurow [bureau] to her and her heirs in fee simple forever. Item 11th, I give and devise to my youngest Daughter Emily Ludeler Seven hundred Dollars or the value of the Same in land to her and her Bodyly heires if Any at the time of her death, if not to her own Brothers & Sisters to be Equaly divided Between them or their lawful heirs. Item 12th, It is my will and desire that rest and residue of my property to be Equaly divided Between all of my children Shear and Shear alike so far as can be consistent, then the Ballance if any to be soled and divided amoung all my children Shear and Shear alik[e] to their own use forever. And lastly I her[e]by constitute (and appoint) my Trustee friend John R. Coats my lawful Executor to all intents and purposes to Execute this my last will and Testament according to othe True intent and meaning of the Same and Every part and clause thereof her[e]by revoking and declaring utt[e]rly void all other willes and testaments by me her[e]tofore made. In witness where I the said Caswell Langdon do her[e] unto set my hand and seal this the 17th day of Feby AD 1876. Signed Sealed published and declared by the Said Caswell Langdon to be his last will and Caswell Langdon (Seal) Testament in the presents of us, who at his request and in his presents do subscribe our names as witnesses thereto P. Langdon Johnston County – In the Probate Court June 24, 1876 In the Matter of the Will of Caswell Langdon, Deceased Certificate of Probate A paper writing purporting to be the last will and testament of Caswell Langdon Deceased, is exhibited for Probate, before me, J. H. Abell, Judge of Probate for said County; by John R. Coats, the Executor, therein named; and thereupon P. B. Parish and Z. Langdon the subscribing witnesses thereto, being duly sworn, each deposed and said: That they are, each a subscribing witness to said will, and that the said Caswell Langdon subscribed the same in each of their presence. They further said that the said Caswell Langdon at the time of subscribing the same declared the said writing to contain his last will and testament, and they did each thereupon, at the request and in the presence of the said testator, subscribe their name as an attesting witness thereto. And further, that at the time of the subscribing aforesaid, the said Caswell Langdon was of sound mind and memory, of full age to execute a will, and under no restraint to their knowledge or belief. Thereupon, It is adjudged by the Court, that the said paper writing and every part thereof, is the last will and testament of the said Caswell Langdon, and the same is ordered to be recorded and filed. And Thereupon, John R. Coats, Executor, as aforesaid, has duly qualified as such. J. H. Abell Probate Judge. H. Abell Caswell Langdon Judge of Probate Jno. R. Coates being sworn doth say That Caswell Langdon late of said County, is dead, having first made and published his last Will and Testament; and that Jno. R. Coates is the Executor named therein. Further, that the property of the said Caswell Langdon consisting of Real Estate and personal property is worth about $2500.00 so far as can be ascertained at the date of this application; And that Betsey E. Langdon, widow, Margaret L. Benson, Benj. F. Langdon, C. M. Langdon, & Emily L. Langdon, who are all residents of Johnston County and all minors except Betsy E. Langdon, widow, Margaret L.
