Devised March 3, 1790, Proven June 1, 1790. March the third day 1790 to all to whom these presents shall come or that may be concerned here with know ye that I John Newsum of Johnston County and province of North Carolina do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form as followeth. Item, my desire is that all my just debts be paid in due time after my decease. Item, I lend to my well beloved wife Patience Newsum two negroes Maly, Hanner, and Jacob during her life, also two hundred and fifty acres of land whereon we now live including the plantation, with two dishes, three basons, and four plates, with one bed and furniture, and eight Cows and Calves and ten head of hogs and ten head of sheep and one work horse. Item, I give to my daughter Zilpha one negro girl named Suck. Item, I give to my son Joel one negro boy named Lundon. Item, I give to my daughter Sarah one negro girl named Ginne. Item, I give to my daughter Martha one negro girl named Silve. Item, I give to my daughter Elizabeth one negro boy named Ned. Item, I give to my daughter Bethana one negro girl named Rose. Item, I leave one negro boy named Sam to be sold and the money to be divided between all my Children and my desire is that the remainder part of my cattle, hogs, and sheep and household goods and horses be equally divided between all my children. Item, I give to my son Joel all the rest of my land not mentioned. Item, I give to my daughter Bethana the land and negros that I lent to my wife after her decease and my desire is that my still and money be divided equally between my Children. And lastly I leave my son Joel Newsum my executor and my well beloved wife executrix of this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and fixed my seal. June 1, 1790, Exhibited in Open Court a writing purporting to be the last Will & Testament of John Newsom Decd. which was not Admitted to probation by Reason it was Made appear to this Court that the said Newsom at the time of publishing the same was not of Sound Mind & perfect Memory. Administration on the Estate of John Newsom Decd. is Granted to Patience Newsom who came into Court and entered into Bond with William Hinnant, Stephen Grice & Hardy Williamson her Securities for the faithful_ of her duty therein in the Sum of four Thousand pounds current Money & Qualified, & on Oath Returned an Inventory of said Estate.
