I James Pool of Johnston County and State of North Carolina being not in bodily health but sound in mind and memory do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament as in manner and form following, that is to say that I will all my funeral charges may be paid and discharged by my executor hereinafter named after my decease. I recommend my soul into the hands of God that gave it me when my body to be laid in the dust from whence it came. ITEM 1: I give to my well beloved wife Patsy Pool the land and plantation whereon I now live containing two hundred acres together with all fixtures?, improvements thereunto appurtenances also one other tract of land containing eighty acres adjoining the lands of Reubin Sanders formerly the land of Hardy Pool to her and her heirs forever, I further will and bequeath unto my above beloved wife four Negroes – one Negro woman by the name of Philis together with her three children, Minty, Louise and Levina and one other Negro girl by the name of Pheraby to her and her heirs forever. ITEM 2: I will and bequeath unto my Brother John Pool ten shillings current money of the State of North Carolina to him his heirs and assigns forever. ITEM 3: I will and bequeath unto my Brother Hardy Pool ten shillings current money of the State of North Carolina to him his heirs and assigns forever. ITEM 4: I will and bequeath unto my Brother Harry Pool ten shillings current money of the State of North Carolina to him his heirs and assigns forever. ITEM 5: I will and bequeath unto my sister Sally Clifton ten shillings current money of the State of North Carolina to him his heirs and assigns forever. ITEM 6: I will and bequeath unto my sister Pheraby Smith ten shillings current money of the State of North Carolina to him his heirs and assigns forever. It is further my will that I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Patsy Pool the residue of my property that is to say two feather beds and furnature together together with all my house hold and kitchen furnature three head of horses her riding saddle and bridle all of my stock of hogs and cattle all of my guns ducks chickens together with all my grain and baskets all of my crop of corn pigs potatoes and fodder and my still and little? tub and such of the property, beside that which I have given unto my brother justly to be disposed of to this payment of my just and lawful debts as executor herein named may think also my? NB: I leave David Avera and Needham W. Bryan executors this my last Will and Testament hereunto I set my hand this twenty-nineth day of December and in the year of our Lord AD 1815.
