State of North Carolina Johnston County I, George Stephenson, being of sound mind, but knowing the uncertainty of life, and desiring to make a certain disposition of my property, do make and declare the following to be my last Will and Testament. 1st, I wish all my just debts to be paid, and provision made out of my general estate for my decent burial. 2nd, I give and bequeath to Amanda Dixon, Agnes Dixon, and Haywood Dixon, children of my Daughter Mary (now deceased) the sum of two hundred Dollars to be divided equally among them. 3rd, I give and bequeath to my daughter Pennie Creech the sum of two hundred Dollars. 4th, I give and bequeath to my daughter Nicey Clifton the sum of two hundred Dollars. 5th, I give and bequeath to my Daughter Ary Higgins the sum of two hundred Dollars. 6th, I give and bequeath to my Daughter Emily Stephenson the sum of two hundred Dollars, one feather bed, and a cow and calf. 7th, I give and bequeath to my daughter Rebecca Langdon the sum of two hundred Dollars. 8th, I give and bequeath to my daughter Ellie Johnson the sum of two hundred Dollars. 9th, The balance of my property, if any, I wish to be divided equally among all my children, sons and daughters - namely, Manly Stephens(on), Nazareth Stephenson, Henry Stephenson, Calvin Stephenson, Nimrod Stephenson, Pennie Creech, Nicey Clifton, Arey Higgins, Emily Stephenson, Rebecca Langdon, Ellie Johnson, and the children of my daughter Mary Dixon Dec'd. 10th, I wish my son Nazareth Stephenson and M. J. Langdon to execute and carry out my wishes and bequests as herein set forth. I affix my signature to above as my last will and Testament. This the 3rd day of February 1882. In the Matter of the Will of George Stephenson Deceased. A paper writing purporting to be the last will and testament of George Stephenson deceased, is exhibited for Probate before me, L. R. Waddell, CSC for said county, by Nazareth Stephenson and M. J. Langdon the Executors therein named, and J. T. Ellington and S. G. Austin, the subscribing witnesses thereto, having been duly sworn, each deposed and said: That they are each a subscribing witness to said will, and that George Stephenson subscribed the same in their presence. They further said that the said George Stephenson at the time of subscribing the same, declared the said writing to contain his last will and testament; and they did each thereupon, at the request and in the presence of the said testator, subscribe their name as an attesting witness thereto. And further, that at the time of the subscribing, as aforesaid, the said George Stephenson was of sound mind and memory, of full age to execute a will, and under no restraint, to their knowledge and belief. Thereupon, It is adjudged by the Court that the said paper writing, and every part thereof, is the last will and testament of the said George Stephenson, and the same is ordered to be recorded and filed. And thereupon Nazareth Stephenson and M. J. Langdon, Executors as aforesaid are duly qualified as such. Let Letters Testamentary issue accordingly. L. R. Waddell, C.S.C. [Recorded Copy only] State of North Carolina Johnston County In the Probate Court A paper purporting to be the last Will and Testament of George Stephenson decd. is exhibited before me the undersigned Clerk of Superior Court for said County by Nazareth Stephenson & M. J. Langdon the Executors therein mentioned, and the due execution thereof by the said George Stephenson is proven by the oath and examination of J. T. Ellington and S. G. Austin the subscribing witnesses thereto, who being duly sworn doth depose and say and each for himself deposeth and saith, that he is a subscribing witness to the paper writing now shown him, purporting to be the last will and testament of George Stephenson, that the said George Stephenson in the presence of this deponent subscribed his name at the end of said paper writing, which is now shown as aforesaid and which bears date of the 3rd day of February 1882. And the deponent further saith, that the said George Stephenson the testator aforesaid did at the time of subscribing his name as aforesaid, declare the said paper-writing so subscribed by him and exhibited to be his Last Will and Testament. And this deponent did thereupon subscribe his name at the end of said Will as an attesting witness thereto and at the request and in the presence of the said testator. And this deponent further saith, that at the said time when the said testator subscribed his name to the said last Will as aforesaid, and at the time of deponents subscribing his name as an attesting witness thereto as aforesaid, the said George Stephenson was of sound mind and memory, of full age to execute a will, and was not under any restraint to the knowledge, information, or belief of this deponent.
