Johnston County, NC - Will of Elisha Thomas, 1803 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Will of Elisha Thomas Johnston County 1803 In the name of God Amen, I Elisha Thomas Senr of the State of North Carolina and Johnston County thro the abundant mercy of God altho weak in body yet of a sound mind and perfect understanding and memory do constitute this my last will and Testament and desire it may be received by all as such, first I most humbly bequeath my soul to God who gave it as to my worldly estate which it hath pleased God To give me my will and desire in that it be divided in manner and form following after all my just debts are paid Item I lend to my loveing wife Lucy Thomas endureing her natural life or widohood and no longer five hundred acres of land where I now live with all the buildings on the same with the plantation and all improvement thereon; also four Negroes to wit, Ben, Joe, Warren and Fielles, also one feather bed and furniture Item I give and bequeath to my son Alexander Thomas to him and heirs forever the same five hundred acres of land with all the improvement theron that I lent to my wife also one Negro man nam Hardy and the same four Negroes I lent to my wife Lucy Thomas after her death or the end of her widowhood and two cows and calves and one feather bed and furniture Item I give and bequeath to my son Elisha Thomas to him and his heirs forever all my land lying on Buffaloe Swamp joining Jesse Pitman, George Cooper and Lemuel Jelks line supposed to be six hundred acres and three Negroes Simon, Anaca and Jude and two cows and their calves and one feather bed and furniture Item I give and bequeath to my son Barnaby Thomas to him and his heirs forever all my land lying on Neuse River whereon he now lives with all the improvement thereon also one Negro man named Peter and one Negro girl named Dorcas Item I give and bequeath to my son Solomon Thomas to him and his heirs forever the sum of ten shillings Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth Hinton to her and her heirs forever the sum of ten shillings Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Cynthia Hayles to her and her heirs forever the sum of ten shillings Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Lucy Lockhart to her and her heirs forever the sum of ten shillings Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Winford Lockhart to her and her heirs forever the sum of ten shillings Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Penelope Thomas to her and her heirs forever three Negroes whose names are Beck, Tamer and Jim and one feather bed and furniture and two cows and their calves, and one horse colt and my will and desire is that my wife Lucy Thomas have the sole care of my daughter Penelope Thomas and her property until she come to lawful age to receive it Item I give and bequeath to my four daughters Elisabeth Hinton, Cynthia Hayles, Lucy Lockhart and Winford Lockhart to them and their heirs forever two Negro boys named Mial and Harry my meaning will and desire is that said Negroes be Values by which executors hereafter named and that two of my above named daughters own and hold said Negroes and pay one half part of the value of said Negroes to my other two daughters Item I give and bequeath to my wife Lucy Thomas all the remaining part of my worldly estate both personal and real and do constitute and appoint my wife Lucy Thomas, John Vinson Esq., and Elisha Thomas Junr executors of and to this my last will and testament.
