Jones County, NC - Cemeteries File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Martha Mewborn Marble SIMMONS/KELLY CEMETERY This cemetery is located just within the Jones County line. Going north on the Neuse Road in Lenoir County, take a right in front of Southwest Christian Church. It is about a mile on the right and is fenced. There is a smaller area that has its own iron fence. There is one stone outside the large fence that we could not get to because of a large dog who took exception to our getting to it. There are numerous grave sites with no stones and it is easy to see the probable original outline of the cemetery. This land was once owned by the Abraham Simmons family and it is possible he was buried there as John W. Simmons was his son. According to the late Rebecca Hardison Vause her grandfather, Richard Barwick, was buried in this cemetery. Becky said there was still a wooden marker when she was a child but it is long gone.
