Bridges Coroner of said County attended by a jury of good and lawful men viz J.D. May, Wm Stewart, Thos. E. Pritchett Asa B. Mallard, James Griffin, Peter Felton, F.C. Gooding, David King, J.N. Shuts, J.L. Philips, Emmanuel King and W. Gilbert by me summoned for that purpose according to law after being by me duly sworn and empannelled at David Thompson (cold) in the County aforesaid did hold an inquest over the dead body of David Thompson and after inquiring unto the facts and circumstances of the death of the deceased from a view of the coops and all the testimony to procured the Jury find as follows. That is to say Witnefs Simon Miller duly sworn that he was at the fence near the house of David Thompson and went there to stay the night on the 16th day of July 1866 and during the night he awoke and saw a man on the fence near him hollowing to some one at the door to break it open and then the man on the fence went to the house and then he heard the report of a fire arm. Then two men come back to the fence and got on a horse or mule he did not know which and went the road toward the Town of Trenton. Witnefs Amos Thompson duly sworn. That he was in the house of David Thompson on the night of the murder and in the night there was some person (Page 2) come to the door made alarm and David Thompson got up and went to the door and opened it. One man come in the house and asked if he had any fire arms. David Thompson said he had a gun he said get that and some person at the door said shoot him and the man in the house fired at the deceased then went out and went off. We the undersign Jurors return this as our verdict that David Thompson come to his death on the 16h or 17th day of July AD 1866 by a shot by some person unknown to us (signed) JS May (seal) (signed) Wm Stewart (seal) (signed) Thos.
