E. Koonce Clerk of the Superior Court of said County, your petitioners would make the specifully show to the Court that they desire to have their names changed from Gaskins Kornegay & Rausaum Kornegay to Gaskins Becton and Rausaum Becton that their said names has never been changed before by said. Your petitioners would further represent that they are citizens of the County; of Jones and State of NC and have been living in said County and State ever since 1866 and your pertioner Rausaum has lived and was born and that previous to filing this petition they have given ten days notice by publication at the court house door in Trenton NC that his ___?? to Gaskins Kornegay and Rausaum Kornegay that they desire to adopt and change their names to Gaskins Becton and Rausaum Becton for the following reasons. That he (there is an up arrow with the names Gaskins and Kornegay written…JH) is listed in the last war as Gaskins (Kornegay is written and marked hough..jh) Becton and retained the name until after the war was over. Then (my is written and marked though..jh) his father went by the name of Kornegay and your petitioner entitled after him. For these reasons your petitioner desire his name changed as prayed so that he may be entitled by the name he went by while in the war. Xx (this is written above the below paragraph..jh) Gaskins Kornegay and Rausaum Kornegay being duly sworn says: That they have heard not the petitions as have setforth and that the facts stated therein are true of this our knowledge except those stated are information oblige and as to those these believes to be true.
