This Indenture made the 18th day of Dec. in the year of our Lord One Thousand 
eight hundred & thirty three between Benj. RHODES of the count of Jones & 
State of N. Carolina of the one part & Jonas JONES, Senr. of the County & 
State aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that I the said Benjamin RHODES 
for & in consideration of the sum of Three hundred dollars to me in hand paid 
or secured o be paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged & bargained & 
sold & do by these presents bargain & sell unto the said Jonas JONES, Senr. a 
certain tract or parcel of land situate lying & being in said County of Jones 
butted & bounded as follows (viz) on the south side of Tuckahoe Creek & North 
side of Newriver Swamp, beginning at a Cypress standing on the side of the 
Mill Pond & on the West side of the Mill Dam, at the corner the Mill Lott & 
runs S 38 E 10 poles to a stake another corner of said Mill Line, then with 
the line S 54 E 107 poles to a stake another corner of said mill lott then 
with the same N 30 E 8 poles to the West then S 15 W 542 poles to a Red Oak, 
William MILLS corner near the Pensid? Branch then down the various courses of 
the sd. Branch supposed to be South 27 E about 80 poles to the run of Newriver 
Swamp then up the various courses of sd. Swamp about 140 poles to two hollies 
then N 7 E 486 poles to a pine on the South side of Duplin Road then N 60 W 44 
poles to high water mark of the Mill pond then down the various courses of sd. 
Mill pond with high water mark to the beginning containing by estimation Five 
hundred and sixty acres be the same more or less. To have & to hold all the 
above mentioned Tract or parcel of land unto him the said Jonas JONES, Snr. 
his heirs & assigns which I the said Benjamin RHODES for myself my heirs & 
assigns do from time to time & at all times warrant & defend the right of the 
above mentioned Lands unto him the said Jonas JONES, Snr. his heirs and 
assigns. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal the day & 
date above written.
