James RHODES to Jonas JONES-slaves BEST, & DICK
Bk. 3, p. 71
30 Oct 1805

Know all men by these presents that I James RHODES in the State of North Carolina 
in Jones County for and in Consideration of the Sum of two hundred and ninety 
pounds current money of this State to me in hand paid I, do hereby acknowledged 
and by the presents doth firmly sell & deliver unto Jonas JONES in the same state 
& County aforesaid to him his heirs and assigns forever one negro woman about 
twenty seven years of age named BEST? & her increase from this date and also one 
negro boy by the name of DICK about one year of age which said negroes I do 
warrant & forever defend from any person or persons laying any right or claim 
thereto. In Witness whereof It he said James RHODES have hereunto set my hand & 
seal this 30 Day of Oct. 1805.

Then was the foregoing bill sale from James RHODES to Jonas JONES proves in Open 
Court by the Oath of Henry BROWN one of the subscribing witnesses and ordered to
