Jones Journal Vol 1 Wednesday May 18, 1949 No 1, Page 8 A FEW OPENING REMARKS This is the first issue of the Jones Journal. It has been sent to all box holders in Jones County in order that as near everyone as possible may see just what the county’s new paper will look like. We naturally hope that you like what you see and that you will give the Journal your support now and for a long time in the future. Mrs. Rachel Cox of Pollocksville Route One is the Editor of the Journal and will be in charge of the Journal office in the rear of the Branch Bank Building in Trenton. She is being aided in gathering the news of the county by Mary Belle Stott of Maysville, Mrs. Carey Waters of Pollocksville, Mrs. Carl Tyndall and Richard Tyndall of Comfort and Mrs. George Nick Nobles of Trenton. Our intention naturally is to make a living income from this paper and its older sister The Lenoir County News. But while doing this we also intend to give Jones County and interesting, informative and constructive newspaper that it can be proud of from the beginning. We don’t pretend to think that we shall please everyone, but we shall most assuredly do our very best to tell the truth consistently. If you have liked this first issue, place your subscription now with one of our solicitors or bring it to our office which shall be open Thursday-Friday and Saturday morning of each week until further notice.
