Transcribed by Martha Mewborn Marble In the Name of God Amen I Frederick Isler Becton of the County of Jones & State of North Carolina, being in a weak and low condition but of sound and disposing mind & memory do make & publish this my last Will and Testament in manner & form following that is to say: Impremies. I give & bequeath to my son, William B. Becton all the plantation & lands bought by me of William L. ?? Cobb, two Negro men named Piner & George. One Horse called Scoggins & one Mare called Caroline, and the gang of Hogs that he feeds on the new road on the new road (sic) at the Cobb land. Also five head of dry Cattle & five hundred dollars in cash to be raised out of my Estate if the same should not be in hand at my death to him his heirs & assigns forever. Item. I give & bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth Heath three hundred dollars in cash to remain in the hands of my Executor hereinafter named, and to be paid to her at his discretion as he may think she may need. Item. I give & bequeath to my beloved wife Eliza G. Becton during her life all the rest of my estate of every description including all my lands & Negros not give to my son William all my stock of every kind, Household and Kitchen furniture, money, notes, bonds & other choses in time (not sure of the preceding two words) in that all my property of every kind, subject to the limitation & condition herein after mentioned to wit: that my said wife shall advance upon their marriage or arrival at age to my two Grand children (marked out) daughters of my daughter Julia Becton one eighth part of all my Negro slaves which I give to them & their heirs, and shall also advance in like manner to all my other children the issue of my marriage with her, as they shall arrive at lawful age each one eighth of said Negros which I give to them their heirs & assigns forever & shall also advance to my children the issue of my marriage with her one seventh of all the other property given to her for life which I give to them their heirs & thus leaving to my said wife one eighth of my slaves after the other shares are all advanced and one seventh of all my other property except the land which after her death I give to my six children the issue of my marriage with her and to the survivor or survivors of them, and in case of her surviving the time of the arrival at 21years or marriage of all my children, the eighth of the slaves remaining & one seventh of the other property left, I give to my said wife absolutely an heir ?? & It is my Will & I so direct that my children by my last wife (marked through) marriage be educated out of the income of the property given to my wife for life, and the necessary funds I hereby direct to be used for that purpose. Lastly I constitute & appoint my son William B. Becton Executor of this my last Will & Testament hereby revoking all other wills by me before made & confirming this as my last Will. Signed F. State of North Carolina Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions June Term 1843 Jones County There was the execution of the last Will and Testament of F. Isler Becton was proved in open Court by the oath of J. J. ?? Becton and John Loftin the subscribing witnesses thereto agreeable to ??? and the said last Will and Testament was ordered to be recorded. At the same time William B. Becton the Executor therein named was qualified as such. Ordered that letters issued to him.
