I Frederick Taylor of the County of Jones and State of North Carolina, being of sound mind and memory and considering the uncertainty of this frail and transitory life. do. therefore. Make. Ordain publish. And declare. This to be my Last Will and testimony that is to say. First after all, My Lawful debts. Are paid, and discharged. The residue of my estate, real and personal I give bequeath and dispose of. As follows to wit. To my beloved wife one bay mare. also. one cow to my Son Jackson. One cow. To my Son Joseph. One dark bay colt. and also one Bed. And one table. To My Daughter Betsy Ann. one table. and. also to My Son Joseph one cow. and also to my beloved wife two beds. I give bequeath and devise also the rest residue and remainder of my real and personal estate to my child now living or to my children or their heirs who may be living at the time of my decease to be divided equally between them, share and share alike. I likewise make, constitute, and appoint my said son Jackson Executor of this My Last Will and Testament, hereby revoking all former wills by me made. In witness whereof I have hereunto sub scribed my name and affixed my seal the ninth day of March One thousand eight hundred and fifty five. Frederick (T) Taylor (T is his mark and there is a hand drawn seal) The above written instrument was subscribed by the said Frederick Taylor in our presents and acknowledged to each of us and who at the same time published and declared the above instrument so subscribed to be his last will and testament and who at the testator’s request and in his presence have signed our names as witnesses hereto and written opposite our names our respective places of residence. Shivar Jones County, NC Jones County Court April Term A.D. 1855 This was the foregoing last Will and Testament of Frederick Taylor presented in open Court for probate. When the same was proved in due forms of law by the oaths of Wm. E. Shivar and Enock Parsons the subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be registered. And at the same time Jackson A. Taylor the Executor therein named came into Court and qualified as such, ordered that letters testamentary issue to him. Signed: Chas. Gerrock, Clerk Additional Comments: This will was filed in Jones County but Frederick Taylor lived in Onslow County in the 1850 Census and his wife was Serena Wood of Onslow County, daughter of Frederick Wood. Frederick Taylor's son Joseph Wallace Taylor moved back to Onslow County and was the father of Captain Matt Taylor of Courthouse Bay and grandfather to Frederick Wiley Taylor of Snead's Ferry.
