Worthington Departed this life January the 31st 1874 Allie Watt Daughter of W. G. and M. E. Worthington Died Sept. 2nd 1882 aged seven months & 26 days NOTES: According to a copy of a deed recorded in Pitt Co., N.C., Richard Worthington was a son of one Robert Weatherington (various spellings), who died ca. 1820 - 1821. Two letters from Richard Montgomery Abbott of Lenoir County to his sister, Penelope Worthington, prove her surname and her parents as Thomas and Cassandra Worthington Abbott. The marriage date for Richard and Penelope has been given to me as married in Pitt County on 21 February 1832 but the source was not provided. Craven A. Worthington gave his birth date as 1833 and that is the date on his tombstone. "Aunt Jane" Worthington never married. Family tradition has it that her sweetheart went off into the Confederate army and never returned. After Craven's wife, Sarah Ann Sherman, died, Aunt Jane moved into his home and kept house for him. Her death is recorded in a newspaper article as follows: The Troy Messenger, Troy, Alabama, December 21, 1921 Death of Miss Worthington – Mrs. Marvin Skinner of Little Oak left Saturday for Banks, Ala. to attend the burial of Miss Jane Worthington, her aunt. Miss Worthington, 85 years of age, died at the home of Fed Dickerson in Dothan, Ala. She was a most excellent woman, a loveable Christian character, and her death is much regretted.
