ASKEW/METTS BIBLE

A typed copy of the Bible found at NSDAR Library in Washington, DC, Georgia GRC 
Vol 180.  Information on location sent by Roger Kammerer and posted with permission 
of the DAR Library. This Bible was located in Statesboro, Georgia in 1975. There is a 
history of the Metts family accompanying this Bible and it gives the parents of Frederick 
Mettts as George Jr. and Amy Metts.

This Family Bible is very old and in very bad condition.  The fly leaf and back are 
missing.  A notation at the beginning of family data states “This is an old Family Bible 
published in 1816.  There are birth recorded in it as early as 1781.”  The Bible is now in 
the possession of Mr. Levin Metts, Statesboro, Georgia

William Askew, son of Thomas Askew, deceased, and Mageretha his wife was born 
January 1st, 1776

Louisa Askew, daughter of Joseph Jackson and Sarah his wife, was born September 7th, 
1781

(Illegible as torn) Askew, son of William and Louisa his wife was born the 22nd of July 
1799

Sarah Askew, daughter of William Askew and Louisa his wife was born December 30th 
1801

(Torn with age) Askew, son of William and Louisa his wife, was born February 20th 1804

Elizabeth Askew, daughter of William and Louisa Askew, was born March 13, 1807

(Torn) Askew, son of William Askew and Louisa Askew was born (month torn) 7, 1807

(Torn) Ryley Askew, son of William and Louisa Askew, was born (month torn) 29th, 
1812

Joseph A. J. Askew, son of William and Louisa Askew, was born February the 7th 1815.

Henry Askew, son of William and Louisa Askew, was born December the 16, 1817

Nathan Metts, son of Fredic Metts and Ann his wife was born 1784 on the 1st of January

Mary Metts, daughter of Fredic Metts and Ann his wife was born 1786 on the 12th of 
March

Levin Metts, son of Fredic Metts and Ann his wife was born 1788 on the 15th of June

Hardy Askew Metts, son of Fredic Metts and Ann his wife was born 1790 on the 5th of 
December

Nelo (or Lewis, illegible) Metts, son of Fredic Metts and Ann his wife was born 1793 on 
the 25th of May

Wright Metts, son of Fredic Metts and Ann his wife was born 1795 on the 5th of 
September

Cathanna Metts, daughter of Frederic Metts and Ann his wife was born 1798 on the 14th 
of July

MARRIAGES

William Askew, son of Thomas Askew and Margareth his lawful wife was married to 
Louisa Jackson, daughter of Joseph Jackson and Sarah his lawful wife August 23rd 1798

Sarah Askew, the daughter of William Askew and Louisa his lawful wife, was married 
October (--?) 1815 ???

J. A. Metts, son of Jesse Metts and Easter his wife was married December 19, 1880
