COLLINS FAMILY BIBLE

This Bible was first uploaded in 2003.  In April 2014 additional information as 
well as scans of the Bible were provided by Dr. Donald E. Collins who stated it 
was written in Amanda Collins Carlton Oglesby's hand.

From the Collins Family Bible Records, Misc. Genealogies, Manuscript Division, 
Joyner Library, East Carolina University, Greenville, NC.  The original Bible 
was last known to still be in Lenoir Co.

Mary Collins the wife of John Collins was Born Sept. the 4th 1802

Henry Thomas Oglesby Son of G. T. and Amanda Oglesby was borne November 15th 
1876

Mellissa Amanda Oglesby Daughter of G. T. & Amanda Oglesby was born Sept. 5th A. 
D. 1873

Richard Lewis Collins first son of John and Mary Collins was born July 15th 1832

John Wesley Collins the 2nd son of John Collins and Mary his wife was born 
August the 20th 1834

Amanda Collins the oldest daughter of John Collins and Mary his wife was born 
July the 5th 1836

Sallie C. Oglesby the Daughter of Geo. T. & Amanda Oglesby was Borned January 
21st 1871

R. L. Collins was married to Elcy S. Becton December 31st in the year of our

John W. Collins was married to Penelope Becton in the year of our lord August

Amanda Collins was married to James B. Carlton July 18th in the year of our lord 
1858

of our lord 1838 on the 28th day of July

the 28th 1864

James B. Carlton died in Hospital near Richmond Va on the 1st day of August 
1864, from wound received by a shell from the enemies works near Petersburg, Va 
while at his post in the Southern Breastworks

Kate A. Collins, second wife of J. W. Collins died Oct. 4th 1871

This was written by Amanda Collins Carlton Oglesby's hand for her brother 
Richard Lewis Collins in 1864.  It was always kept in her parent's home on Vine 
Swamp in the Southern part of Lenoir County. The old Becton home is still 
standing and was on the Lenoir County Tour in 2012.  Jarman Becton was generous 
to give it to me.

Elcy S. Becton, wife of R. L. Collins was born on vine Swamp in Lenoir County NC 
July 31st 1835 and was married to R. L. Collins December 31st 1855

Edwin Becton Collins first Son of R L. & Elcy S. Collins was Born in Kinston NC 
June 11th 1857 & died March 9th 1858

George Thomas Collins second Son of R. L. Collins & Elcy S. Becton was Born in 
Kinston NC September 15th 1859

John Blackmon Collins third Son of R. L. & Elcy S. Collins was Born in Kinston 
NC March 28th 1861

Ivey Jarman Collins fourth Son of R. L. & Elcy S. Collins was Born March 7th 
1863
