Married Cance Jerome on 14 Nov 1931 ------------ FAMILY RECORD, MISCELLANEOUS NOTE: Some of the below information appears to be incorrect. My great grandfather was Blaney Harper who was born in Green County, NC about 1790. He married Polly Hood. Two children were born to them - James M. Harper and Robin Harper. The latter died before maturity. James Madison Harper married Charlotte Elizabeth Parrott daughter of Jacob Parrott of Lenoir County, a planter of great wealth. The wife of Jacob Parrott - was Arendall a descendent of the Earl of Arendall - (last line marked through) - James M. Harper and his wife moved from Greene County to a plantation on Neuse river near Falling Creek. Here all of their children were born: Francis Marion Harper, Percy Harper, Jacob Harper, Martha Harper, James Warren Harper, Henrietta Harper and John Franklin Harper. Francis Marion Harper, Jr, youngest child of Francis M. Harper Sr was educated at Farm Valley Academy, La Grange Academy, New Bern Graded Schools, University of North Carolina (1884 to 1888), University of Georgia (1895 - 1898), University of Chicago 1898 - 1902, summer quarters for four summers. Obtained PhB degree from the University of North Carolina and the A. M. Degree from the University of Georgia. Began teaching in the Raleigh Graded Schools in 1888 and in 1891 began teaching in the public schools of Dawson, Ga. In 1892 became assistant Superintendent of the City Schools of Athens, Ga and Principal of the High School. In 190?? Became Superintendent of the Raleigh Graded Schools. In September 1918. He resigned the Superintendency of the Raleigh Public School and accepted a position with the Bureau of Education at Washington. In July 1919 he accepted a position with the Provident Mutual Life Insurance Company of Philadelphia and continues to serve as District Agent of the Company at Raleigh. During the World War he served as Chairman of the Four Minute Speakers for the Congressional District in which he resides. He was also a member of the Rotary Club for several years. At the university of North Carolina he was selected a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity and was also elected Commencement Marshall during his Junior Year.
