Some of these original documents are still in the possession of private individuals and some have been placed at the NC Archives or other institutions in Collections. In addition there is another Lovit Hines Collection at the NC Archives of original papers in P.C. 1759 (two boxes). My thanks to Ed Morris of the Archives and Records Branch for this information. I have tried not to duplicate individual documents already abstracted from various sources especially the Edwards Collection where the original Hill and many of the Hardee documents are found. No doubt many of the originals of records in this Collection are in the James Hines and Wiatt Hines Collections, but they have not been abstracted as yet. The researcher also needs to refer to the Dobbs County Archives Page for those records that predate the founding of Lenoir County. 1831 - 1840 BILL OF SALE - MAJOR HARDEE TO BRIGHT HARDEE 4 Jan 1833 INDENTURE - MAJOR HARDEE TO BRIGHT HARDEE 4 Jan 1833 LETTER TO BRIGHT HARDEE RE CASWELL 10 April 1833 PATENTS SURVEY FOR BENJAMIN PARROTT 16 March 1835 DEPOSITION - B. BERRY NOTE - This is word for word and even then it makes no sense. It is obviously taken out of context and without additional documents it is not possible to understand exactly what this is about 2 September 1836 - On night before my son bryan dyed I went to franklin Humphrey's about 300 yards to borrow bed clothing s he complained of being cold. WM HUMPHEY act me what would become of them negroes if he died. I replied was live or die the child would get something bud is proved that I said live or die they would git them & is proved by the same person that he saw & read a bill of sail about the month of Aug or Sept 1834 which he now states he beleaves he saw the same bill of sail in his pocketbook on the 4 of June 1835 at Wm Murrell's when he ly sick he beleaved it to be the same by a spash on the back buck did not open and read it as he did in Aug before. Dear Sir, I have taken some depositions and want to take some more as I have lately found out som that was with him at Saml Frazells on the 2nd day at night on the same day he gave me the bill of sail up at Buckner Strangers which was on the second day of January 1835 when there he told me that his wife was gone to her mothers and her did not want Cloe which I have proved by severill that he said at severill times he did not want her nor never ment to take her home. Dear Sir the bill of sail they content under that James Pittman witnessed was give 1832 for Cloe along. So it is proved also that I gave one in the forepart of the year 1833 for Cloe & a boy child which Wm Muirill witnessed. I have proved by 2 or 3 witness at the time pittman was present that I only gave one for her alone and particular excepted her oldest child plesent which was borned the 16 of January 1831 the boy was borned the 13 of March 1833 the others spoken of in them bill was borned the 19 of November 1834 but it died the 1 day of Feb 1835. So dear Sir I want to git the liberty to take som more depposissions after corte if it can be done for which I hope to make the care very plain to the corte for which he never pard me one cent for her & never had her in posession one day. I only gave him a bill of sail to go on the aliramia when he had two brothers & the girl had two sisters one belonging to each son that I gave them bills off sails for the day they went on - to Wm Everitts so more but hoping to see you at corte.
