She was the daughter of Martha Abbott Ezzell who was the daughter of Margaret Ann Sumrell Abbott who was the daughter of Ancey Phillips Sumrell who was the daughter of Peter and Margaret Witherington Phillips. We feel this Peter was the son of John and Louisa. These Deeds are now in the possession of Anne McArthur Gaddi of Grifton. Grant entered to John Phillips for 5 acres next to his fathers 500 and l00 acres - see entry above - l2 Dec l796 - there are four pages of this document done in different ways - all original Deed - Oliver C. Fife (or) Peter Phillips (ee) l Jan l83l - $95 - land in Lenoir County South side Nuce River and SS of Great Contentney Creek being a part of a tract of land of five hundred Ac granted to John Phillips beginning with corner in the 500 Ac and running with another survey of one hundred A granted to said John Phillips to William Phillips line - agreeable with THE REPORT OF THE DIVISION OF SUCH LAND - 37 Ac Deed - Spencer Fife (or) Peter Phillips (ee) - l5 November l840 - $l25 - tract of land on NS Neuce and SS of great Contentney Creek adj to land of Peter Phillips, heirs of Abner Witherington it being a part of a tract of land deeded to Eben Fife by Thomas A. Meeks of Georgia (or) Washington Sumrell (ee) - l5 Oct l857 - $20 - can't tell how many A not much - NS Nuce - SS Contentney - part of land of late Jesse and Stephen Fife which decended to them from their father Eben Fife dec and at the death of said Jesse and Stephen Fife devised to Holland Meeks wife of Benjamin Meeks and sister of said Jesse and Stephen which now decends to Amos Meeks and Alice E. Meeks only lawful heirs of Hollan Meeks .
