Sutton, PhD, sutton@edtesting.com, July 11, 2017. Clellan Sutton Collection, Bucklesberry Community, La Grange, NC. C. L. CHESTNUT TO BENJAMIN FRANKLIN SUTTON, 1865 Received of B F Sutton Jr to purchase a/ct (1600) sixteen hundred lbs of Fodder Feby 11 1865 C L Chesnutt Cpt CSofA 13th Batallion Light Artillery END OF DOCUMENT Comments: B. F. Sutton is Benjamin Franklin Sutton (b. 1838; d. 1897). The suffix, Jr., accompanying his name would suggest that his father was Benjamin Franklin Sutton, Sr. However, B. F.’s proven father was Hardy Sutton. C. L. Chesnutt was a Captain and Acting Quartermaster for the Confederate Army, 13th Batallion Light Artillery. See http://civil-war-soldiers.findthedata.org/l/945609/C-L- Chesnutt Per Martha Mewborn Marble (personal communication, 3.9.14), "My hunch is they seized the fodder and gave Benjamin a receipt for which he never collected."
