UNIDENTIFIED BORROWERS TO BENJAMIN FRANKLIN SUTTON, 1861 Six Months after date we or either of us promise to pay Benj. F. Sutton exr. of Hardy Sutton Sr. deceased or order the Sum of Forty one and 55/100 Dollars for value received as witness our hands and Seals December 12th 1861 Witness F. F. Jackson END OF DOCUMENT Comments: Hardy Sutton died Sept. 11, 1861, approximately three months before the date of this document. This document is the first in the Clellan Sutton Collection in which the suffix, Sr. (Senior) occurs with Hardy Sutton's name. Use of Sr. presupposes there is a son whose name is the same as the father's and which Jr. (Junior) has been assigned. Technically, Sr. was incorrectly used in this document with Hardy's name since none of his and wife, Annie Hill Sutton's sons were named Hardy Sutton, Jr. Benjamin Franklin Sutton was a son of Hardy and Annie Hill Sutton. The names and accompanying signatures of the borrowers of this document are absent, having been torn from the document.
