                                                 LENOIR COUNTY, N.C.
   I, Henry T. Randolph, Standard Keeper of Lenoir Coun-
ty, certify that I this day proceeded to examine the Weights and 
Measures of ...............Julius Sutton................ and have 
tried the same by the Standard, now in my office, whereupon the said 
weights & measures are found to agree with the said standard.

Comments:

Rural country stores had scales for weighing food items, produce, etc. 
that needed routine calibration to ensure accurate and fair sales. 
Julius Eri Sutton (1847-1925) and twin brother, Junius Eli Sutton (1847-
1931), operated a store in Bucklesberry by 1884, which surely would 
have had a set of scales that needed regular inspection. See
