Old Dobbs County (unnamed in document) was not established until 1758 from eastern Johnston County, and Johnston County (named in document) was established in 1746 and remained in its larger geographic size until 1758. The identified tract of land, further identified in Bucklesberry, provides evidence that this land was located in Old Dobbs County, specifically, in the eastern split-off from Johnston County. See http://www.usgennet.org/usa/nc/state2/amap/nccf.html Acreage surveyed in this document is consistent with a 1757 Land Patent #960 issued to John Sutton [c.f., Colony of North Carolina Land Patents, 1735-1764, by Margaret Hoffman], which reads: John Sutton - 25 May 1757 - 275 acres in Johnston Co in Bucklesberry adj Thomas Uzzell,John Row and lands sd Sutton lives on (which was) taken up by John Giles. Therefore, this document has been assigned a circa date of 1757.
