Ivey’s deroved birth date would have been 1834, which is identical to the birth year of 1834 for Samuel Ivy Sutton recorded on this page of the Hardy and Annie Hill Sutton Bible. Martha Mewborn Marble’s position is that it is unclear whether Ivey was the son of this Thomas, although it is entirely possible. Ms. Marble believes this Thomas is probably the son of Benjamin, and brother of Hardy. This 1850 Census data provides the basis for establishing a ca. 1782 birth date for Thomas. The names of children,Louiza, Junius, Julius, and Christian, are recorded in a different color ink and with a different handwriting style. The Wood family lived in the two-story house that still stands in the Potneck community (part of the greater Bucklesberry community), directly off of Kennedy Home Road, about a quarter mile east of the Jeremiah Sutton Cemetery. ---------- Page 680 [Left column] Thomas Departed this life February 11th 1828 age forty one years 3 months and Twenty Six days Elisha Uzzell dyd died March the 18th 1832 age 17 year 10 mo and 28 days Births Julian Leslie Sutton was born September the 19 1884 [Right column] John Gray departed this life October the 7 1830 Births Allen was born November the 22nd 1852 Arter was born March the 9th day 1853 Samuel was born April the 15th day 1853 Leroy was born November the 8th 1855 Avy was born August 6th 1858 Nicy was born Sept the 8th 1859 Burbary was born Nov the 23 1860 Fountain was born Aug 18th day 1861 END OF DOCUMENT Comments: The first entered name in the left colum, Thomas, has an extrapolated birth date of October 16, 1786. This is probably Thomas Uzzell, given Elisha Uzzell with the same last name is listed directly beneath the name of Thomas. Matt Harris identifies a Thomas Uzzell, Jr. with the same death year of 1828 and birth year of 1786 as the Thomas herein. He was the son of Thomas, Sr. and Mary Parr Uzzell. Mr. Harris also lists an Elisha Uzzell with the same death date of 1832 as recorded herein. In addition, Mr. Harris notes that Thomas, Jr. served in the military: On Ancestry.com a search on Thomas Uzzell turned up a record from the War of 1812. He was listed in Capt. Cox Company of NC Militia (Roll/Box 213, Roll-exct 602) as a Corporal. See Matt Harris notes online: http://www.genealogy.com/forum/surnames/topics/uzzell/376/ …Matt Harris notes… Martha Mewborn Marble notes: The five children of Thomas Uzzell, Jr. were Elisha, Elizabeth, Winnie Linde, Leah, and John Gray, as listed on p. 678 of the Hardy and Annie Hill Sutton Bible. See http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~paday/dobbers/uzzell/pafn02.htm Per the earliest documents in the Clellan Sutton Collection which name the first John Sutton from Bertie County to arrive in Bucklesberry, there are Sutton ties to the Uzzell family, in particular, Thomas Uzzell.
